In its early stages, AMD may not cause any noticeable symptoms, which is an excellent reason to have regular eye exams! The rate of progression of AMD, and the onset of symptoms will vary from person to person. Some people may experience rapid deterioration of central vision, others may have gradual onset. In most cases, a good degree of usable peripheral vision remains.
The disease may be present, and symptoms may occur, in one eye or both. People with dry AMD in only one eye often do not notice any change in their vision.
