Canadian reports regarding Avastin.
Hoffmann-La Roche Limited (Roche), in consultation with Health Canada, has issued a letter in Canada regarding some Canadian cases of eye inflammation associated with Avastin. In the USA, Genentech has issued a similar letter entitled "Important Drug Notification, Reports of Intraocular Imflammatory Reactions after Intravitreal Injection with Avastin."These letters provide information about reports of intraocular adverse events, including serious intraocular inflammatory reactions, all originating in Canada and following off-label use of Avastin. The Canadian Ophthalmological Society further indicates that two Canadian centres have reported an association of TASS/sterile endophthalmitis after intra-vitreal injection with a specific lot number of Avastin.
