


In May 2010 the Executive Board of AMD Alliance International (AMDAI) named Stephen King, a senior executive in the vision field, as interim Chief Executive Officer. AMDAI is a consortium of more than 60 of the world's leading vision, seniors, and research agencies. Stephen is Acting Chief Executive Officer whilst we are recruiting for a new CEO.
Stephen is Group Director of Prevention and International Affairs at the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in the United Kindom. He leads one of RNIB's 3 strategic priorities, preventing people losing their sight unnecessarily, and also leads RNIB's work with global business, government and NGO's.
He has been a RNIB Director since 1990 - firstly as Director of Technical and Consumer Services, and then Director of Access and Innovation.
Stephen has an MBA from the Scottish Business School at Glasgow University and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
Outside RNIB, Stephen is a Non-Executive Director at NHS West Essex, a Trustee of Sightsavers International, a member of the Ocular Public Health Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a founding board member of the Daisy Consortium.
Stephen started his working life with Collins publishers, was Head of Operations at Fontana paperbacks and RCA/Columbia Pictures Video, and Director of Operations at Athena International Ltd.
Allie Laban-Baker is Vice President Communications and Country Manager USA for AMD Alliance International. Before coming to AMDAI in January 2009, Allie served for nine years as Senior Director of Communications and Marketing for The Foundation Fighting Blindness in the United States.
In addition, her career included work in the corporate world as Manager of External Relations for Choice Hotels International. Allie began her career as a television reporter, and also lived in Vienna, Austria working for an international Olympic organization.
Headquartered in Maryland, Laban-Baker has more than 20 years experience in communications, outreach, awareness programs, marketing, public relations and events planning. She is a graduate of the State University of New York where she studied Communications and Broadcast Journalism.
Her experience in the low vision/blindness field, coupled with her extensive communications and marketing background, make her a valuable part of the AMD Alliance International team and in helping us further our mission to provide help and hope to those living with the challenges of macular disease.
Allie and her husband Norman live outside of Baltimore, Maryland. They enjoy golf, cross country skiing, and playing the violin for a local symphony.
With experience working in Europe, Africa, and North America, Swiss-born Isabel Mueller is responsible for logistics, member coordination, research, office management, translation, budget planning and tracking, purchasing, and global event planning and oversight.
Isabel’s impressive past career experience includes working in the medical, law, and hospitality fields. Serving in our headquarters in Toronto, Canada, Isabel is well-traveled, speaks three languages, and possesses a degree in hotel business. With a broad understanding of the political climate and nuances of various cultures around the world, Isabel’s unique background makes her a tremendous asset to AMD Alliance International.
Isabel is an avid yoga enthusiast, chair of the Toronto Young Swiss Association and lives in Toronto with her partner Brendan and Cairn terrier “Rooney”.
Kausko Kamiya serves as AMD Alliance International’s Country Manager in Japan. Headquartered in Tokyo, Kasuko began her career with AMDAI in 2008 working to increase awareness and understanding of macular disease within her country. Like much of the rest of the world, macular disease is on the rise in Japan, making Kasuko’s role with AMDAI critical. Kasuko’s background includes extensive experience in public affairs and corporate internal and external communications.
