Mr. Parry was appointed during the annual board meeting of AMDAI in New York on April 16, 2010.

Parry joined Prevent Blindness America in April 2002, after 20 years in not-for-profit management. Prevent Blindness America is the oldest voluntary eye health and safety organization in the United States engaged in the prevention of blindness through comprehensive programs of community service, public and professional education and research.

AMDAI is a consortium of 70 of the world's leading vision, seniors, and research organizations in 25 countries, with the aim of bringing knowledge, hope and help to individuals and families around the globe affected by age related macular degeneration (AMD). There are 30 million people affected by AMD worldwide and that number is predicted to triple over the next 10 years given the aging population.

“We are privileged to have Hugh assume the post of Chair,” said Narinder Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of AMDAI. “The expertise and guidance of the Board is a critical part of our success. Hugh’s dynamic leadership style and commitment to serving the vision community will play a key role in advancing our priorities and supporting our mission to provide hope and help to those living with macular disease.”

“Eye diseases, such as macular degeneration, cross all borders,” said Parry. “I am honored to be chosen to chair this organization of dedicated individuals from around the world so that we may put forth a collaborative effort to help put an end to unnecessary vision loss.”

AMD Alliance International’s mission is accomplished through: generating awareness and understanding of macular disease; promoting the importance of education, early detection, knowledge of treatment and rehabilitation options; and preserving vision and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by macular disease.
